{"id":1008,"date":"2019-08-18T22:59:20","date_gmt":"2019-08-18T20:59:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/?p=1008"},"modified":"2025-08-25T19:08:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T17:08:12","slug":"le-cinema-britannique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/08\/18\/le-cinema-britannique\/","title":{"rendered":"Le cin\u00e9ma britannique"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Les ann\u00e9es\nTrente, ou la (re)construction d&rsquo;une industrie<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">La crise \u00e9conomique qui frappe les ann\u00e9es trente rapproche les britanniques des salles de cin\u00e9ma propices \u00e0 distraire les esprits.Les films &nbsp;ne s&rsquo;\u00e9cartent donc pas des genres qui ont fait leurs preuves : histoires d&rsquo;amour, films policiers&#8230; ainsi aucune \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9cole\u00a0\u00bb ne se distingue \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque, si ce n&rsquo;est l\u2019\u00e9cole documentaire\u00a0\u00bb regroup\u00e9e autour de l&rsquo;\u00e9cossais <strong>John GRIERSON<\/strong> <strong>.                                                                                                   C\u2019est<\/strong> \u00e0 cette p\u00e9riode que se distinguent deux cin\u00e9astes : <strong>Anthony ASQUITH<\/strong> sp\u00e9cialiste des adaptations&nbsp; th\u00e9\u00e2trales, avec <em>Pygmalion 1938<\/em> d\u2019apr\u00e8s <em>Bernard Shaw &nbsp;<\/em>et <strong>Alfred HITCHCOCK<\/strong>, qui r\u00e9alise des films depuis 1921, <em><strong>Les 39 marches 1935, Une femme dispara\u00eet<\/strong><\/em>, 1938 .<strong>Alexandre Korda <\/strong>originaire de Hongrie produit de nombreux succ\u00e8s de 1932 \u00e0 1938 dont <em><strong>la vie priv\u00e9e d\u2019Henri VIII <\/strong><\/em>qu\u2019il r\u00e9alise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>La guerre sur\nles \u00e9crans<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">L&rsquo;\u00e9poque est favorable aux documentaristes form\u00e9s par <strong>GRIERSON et CAVALCANTI <\/strong>qui filment des \u00ab\u00a0histoires vraies\u00a0\u00bb, comme par exemple <em><strong>Les Hommes du bateau-phare<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>qui retrace l&rsquo;histoire authentique de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipage d&rsquo;un bateau-phare attaqu\u00e9 et d\u00e9truit par l&rsquo;aviation allemande                                                                                                              D\u2019autres films proviennent directement des unit\u00e9s de production cin\u00e9matographique de <em>la Royal Air Force, de la Navy et de l&rsquo;Arm\u00e9e<\/em>. Ainsi le cin\u00e9ma britannique trouve une nouvelle fonction dans la participation \u00e0 l&rsquo;effort de guerre.                                              Parmi les films produits en Grande-Bretagne \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque, on peut remarquer en 1943<em> <strong>Colonel Blimp<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>De <strong>Michael Powell<\/strong>, en 1945 <em><strong>Henry V<\/strong><\/em>, de, et avec <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.laurenceolivier.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Laurence OLIVIER<\/strong><\/a> et <em><strong>Br\u00e8ve Rencontre<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>de <strong>David Lean<\/strong> la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>L&rsquo;apr\u00e8s-guerre<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Les Etats-Unis veulent&nbsp; imposer leur cin\u00e9ma. Pour \u00e9viter cela le gouvernement d\u00e9cide de limiter toutes les importations de films Sur le plan local un quota 45 % de films britanniques est instaur\u00e9&#8230; jamais atteint, il sera abaiss\u00e9 \u00e0 30 % dans le courant des ann\u00e9es 50. Les am\u00e9ricains ripostent par un embargo cin\u00e9matographique.Tout le monde y perd. Un accord est alors conclu. A ce sujet, un humoriste dit un jour : \u00ab\u00a0<em>Le cin\u00e9ma britannique pr\u00e9senta des chefs-d&rsquo;\u0153uvre, puis des excuses\u00a0\u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">De nouvelles aides au cin\u00e9ma sont cr\u00e9\u00e9es, et se r\u00e9v\u00e8lent efficaces : une taxe sp\u00e9ciale est instaur\u00e9e sur le prix des billets pour financer les productions.<br> Ces nouvelles mesures permettent l&rsquo;affirmation de talents comme <strong>David LEAN <\/strong>avec ses adaptations de <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/humwww.ucsc.edu\/dickens\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Dickens<\/em><\/a>, <strong>Laurence OLIVIER<\/strong> <em><strong>Hamlet<\/strong><\/em>, en1949, ou encore <strong>Carol REED<\/strong> <em>Le <strong>Troisi\u00e8me Homme<\/strong><\/em>, la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Parmi les r\u00e9ussites de l&rsquo;apr\u00e8s-guerre, on compte aussi les productions des Studios <em>Ealing<\/em>, dirig\u00e9s par <em>Michael Balcon<\/em>, second\u00e9 d&rsquo;<strong>Alberto CAVALCANTI<\/strong>. Ainsi appara\u00eet d\u00e8s 1945 le domaine du fantastique avec <em><strong>Au c\u0153ur de <\/strong>la nuit<\/em> film \u00e0 sketches dont les th\u00e8mes sont de l&rsquo;ordre des fant\u00f4mes, des divinations et autres possessions&#8230;Des productions, o\u00f9 on retrouvera \u00e0 plusieurs reprises <em>Alec Guiness<\/em>,: <em>L&rsquo;<strong>Homme au complet blanc<\/strong><\/em><strong>, <\/strong>d&rsquo;<strong>Alexander MACKENDRICK, <\/strong>(1951); mais surtout le l\u00e9gendaire <em><strong>Tueurs de Dames<\/strong><\/em>, (1955) du m\u00eame .<strong>Michael Powell <\/strong>et <strong>Emeric Pressburger <\/strong>cr\u00e9ent leur propre maison de production&nbsp;: Les Archers et r\u00e9alisent <em><strong>Le Narcisse noir<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1948), <em><strong>Les Chaussons rouges<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1948)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Les ann\u00e9es\nCinquante<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">A l&rsquo;aube des ann\u00e9es cinquante, l&rsquo;apparition de la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision et la diversification des loisirs portent un coup bas \u00e0 la fr\u00e9quentation des salles. Les studios <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hammerfilms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Hammer<\/em><\/a> se sp\u00e9cialisent dans le fantastique. Dans ce cadre <strong>Terence FISHER<\/strong>  devient le r\u00e9alisateur vedette des studios en posant la premi\u00e8re pierre d&rsquo;une impressionnante s\u00e9rie de<em> <strong>Frankenstein<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>et de films de vampires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Appara\u00eet alors un nouveau mouvement le <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Free Cinema (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\" href=\"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/08\/18\/le-free-cinema-aux-origines-du-cinema-social-britannique\/\" target=\"_blank\">Free Cinema<\/a><\/em>. Lanc\u00e9 en f\u00e9vrier 1956 par&nbsp; la pr\u00e9sentation de trois court-m\u00e9trages : La projection fut suivie de la lecture d&rsquo;un manifeste qui incitait les r\u00e9alisateurs \u00e0 sortir des studios pour filmer en ext\u00e9rieur, pour se rapprocher de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 humaine, la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de groupes sociaux, et ainsi de rompre avec les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes.    <em>                                                                                           <\/em>Le <em><a href=\"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/08\/18\/le-free-cinema-aux-origines-du-cinema-social-britannique\/\">Free Cinema <\/a><\/em>\u00ab\u00a0pur et dur\u00a0\u00bb concerne seulement un petit nombre de courts-m\u00e9trages car en abordant le long-m\u00e9trage, les jeunes r\u00e9alisateurs furent oblig\u00e9s de faire certaines concessions tout en gardant une part de l&rsquo;esprit du <em><a href=\"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/08\/18\/le-free-cinema-aux-origines-du-cinema-social-britannique\/\">Free Cinema&nbsp;<\/a><\/em>:<em><strong>Un Go\u00fbt de Miel<\/strong><\/em>, de <strong>Tony RICHARDSON <\/strong>en 1961 <em><strong>La solitude du coureur de fond<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1962); <em><strong>Le prix d&rsquo;un Homme<\/strong><\/em><strong>, <\/strong>(1963) de <strong>Lindsay ANDERSON <em>Samedi soir, dimanche matin <\/em><\/strong>(1960 )de <strong>Karel Reisz<\/strong>.       Cette nouvelle vague annonc\u00e9e par <em><strong>Les chemins de la haute ville<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1958) de <strong>Jack Clayton <\/strong>se tarira assez vite et la plupart de ces metteurs en sc\u00e8ne travailleront ensuite aux Etats Unis<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Les ann\u00e9es Soixante<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Les ann\u00e9es Soixante voient s&rsquo;installer en Grande-Bretagne des cin\u00e9astes venus de tous les horizons; Certains am\u00e9ricains s&rsquo;y installent pour \u00e9chapper \u00e0 la \u00ab\u00a0<em>Chasse aux Sorci\u00e8res<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb qui les menace dans leur pays, travaillant m\u00eame parfois sous un nom d&#8217;emprunt comme <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/fr.encyclopedia.yahoo.com\/articles\/ma\/ma_2708_p0.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Joseph LOSEY<\/strong><\/a>  qui signe ses meilleurs films en collaboration avec <em>Harold Pinter&nbsp;<\/em>: <em><strong>The Servant<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1963),  <em><strong>Accident<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1967)\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Mais ce que l&rsquo;on retient de ces ann\u00e9es, c&rsquo;est l&rsquo;imposant <em>Lawrence d\u2019Arabie<\/em> que David LEAN r\u00e9alise en 1962 mais aussi l&rsquo;historique <em><strong>If<\/strong>&#8230;<\/em> de <strong>Lindsay ANDERSON<\/strong>, qu&rsquo;il pr\u00e9sente comme \u00e9tant une m\u00e9taphore de la vie britannique de l&rsquo;\u00e9poque, en 1968; ou encore <em>2001: <strong>l<\/strong>\u2019<strong>odyss\u00e9e de l\u2019espace <\/strong><\/em>la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e de l&rsquo;am\u00e9ricain <strong>Stanley KUBRICK <\/strong>install\u00e9 en Grande Bretagne; et surtout, aux yeux du grand public, l&rsquo;apparition en 1962 de l&rsquo;agent pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 de Sa Royale Majest\u00e9 <em><strong>James Bond.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Les ann\u00e9es\nSoixante-dix<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">La t\u00e9l\u00e9vision est un riche vivier de talents, d\u2019o\u00f9 sortiront <strong>John SCHLESINGER<\/strong>, Ken Loach , <strong>Stephen Frears, Mike leigh<\/strong>, <strong>Ken Russel<\/strong>, baroque au possible, <strong>John Boorman <\/strong>qui apr\u00e8s <em><strong>L\u00e9o the last <\/strong><\/em>(1970) rejoint les Etats Unis sans oublier les <strong>Monty Python<\/strong>&nbsp; qui apr\u00e8s avoir conquis le petit \u00e9cran avec leurs sketches s&rsquo;attaquent au grand, avec succ\u00e8s, <strong><em>Sacr\u00e9 Graal <\/em><\/strong>en 1975 ,et <em><strong>La vie de Brian<\/strong><\/em> (1979) .A la m\u00eame \u00e9poque apparaissent de jeunes r\u00e9alisateurs britanniques qui ont souvent fait leurs premi\u00e8res armes dans la publicit\u00e9, et seront d\u00e9pendant des financements am\u00e9ricains, c&rsquo;est le cas des fr\u00e8res <strong>SCOTT, Tony et Ridley<\/strong>, <em><strong>The Duellists<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>en 1976 de ce dernier, d&rsquo;apr\u00e8s une nouvelle de <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ifrance.com\/DOSSIERSCINEMAETCIE\/CONRAD%20JOSEPH.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Joseph Conrad<\/em><\/a>, c&rsquo;est aussi le cas d&rsquo;<strong>Alan PARKER<\/strong>, qui renoue de temps \u00e0 autre avec ses racines britanniques comme pour <em><strong>The Commitments<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>en 1991.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Les ann\u00e9es\nQuatre-vingt<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">On crie \u00e0 la renaissance du cin\u00e9ma britannique \u00e0 partir des<em> <strong>Chariots de feu<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1982) de <strong>Hugh HUDSON <\/strong>qui re\u00e7oit quatre <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oscars.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oscars<\/a> \u00e0 Hollywood . <em><strong>Gandhi<\/strong><\/em>, de Sir <strong>Richard ATTENBOROUGH, <\/strong><em><strong>Chambre avec vue<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>de <strong>James IVORY<\/strong>, suivront avec une moisson d\u2019oscars.  <em><strong>The Mission<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>de <strong>Roland JOFFE<\/strong>, remporte la Palme d&rsquo;Or \u00e0 Cannes en 1986.&nbsp;Cependant derri\u00e8re les \u00ab\u00a0super\u00a0\u00bb-productions \u00e0 succ\u00e8s se distinguent des r\u00e9alisateurs qui font d\u00e9couvrir un cin\u00e9ma \u00ab\u00a0social&nbsp;: <strong>Stephen FREARS <\/strong><em><strong>My Beautiful Laundrette<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>en 1985, <strong>Ken LOACH <\/strong><em><strong>Riff-Raff<\/strong><\/em>, (1991), mais aussi <strong>Mike LEIGH <\/strong><em><strong>High Hopes<\/strong>, (1988<\/em>), <strong><em>Secrets et mensonges <\/em><\/strong>(1996) palme d\u2019or \u00e0 Cannes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\"><strong>John BOORMAN <\/strong>tourne <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/07\/16\/hope-and-glory\/\">Hope and Glory<\/a><\/strong><\/em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/07\/16\/hope-and-glory\/\"> <\/a><\/strong>(1987)&nbsp;: d&rsquo;apr\u00e8s ses souvenirs d&rsquo;enfance&nbsp; durant la seconde guerre mondiale dont la suite sera sa derni\u00e8re r\u00e9alisation en 2014 <em><strong>Queen and country<\/strong><\/em>. <strong>Peter Greenaway <\/strong>se distinguera avec <em><strong>Meurtre dans un jardin anglais<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>1982 qui lui vaudra l\u2019attention de la critique et du public cultiv\u00e9 europ\u00e9en et une carri\u00e8re en marge de la production britannique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"> <strong>Les ann\u00e9es Quatre-vingt-dix<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Le cin\u00e9ma britannique n&rsquo;a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi florissant que lors des ann\u00e9es quatre-vingt-dix. <strong>Kennet Branagh <\/strong>acteur et r\u00e9alisateur s\u2019inspire de <em>Shakespeare&nbsp;<\/em>: <em><strong>Henry V <\/strong><\/em>(1990), <strong><em>Hamlet <\/em><\/strong>(1997) \u2026..En 1994 succ\u00e8s mondial pour <strong>Mike NEWELL <\/strong>avec <em><strong>Quatre mariages et un enterrement<\/strong><\/em>, <strong>Mark Herman&nbsp;<\/strong>: <em><strong>Les Virtuoses <\/strong><\/em>(1997). <strong>Anthony Minghella <\/strong>apr\u00e8s un t\u00e9l\u00e9film propuls\u00e9 sur grand \u00e9cran&nbsp;: <em><strong>Truly Madly Deeply <\/strong><\/em>part faire&nbsp; carri\u00e8re \u00e0 Hollywood <strong>Michael WINTERBOTTOM<\/strong> traite de divers th\u00e8mes \u00e0 travers une filmographie foisonnante <em><strong>Jude<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1996), adaptation du roman homonyme de <em>Thomas Hardy<\/em>), <em><strong>Go Now<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>(1996 ) \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Le cin\u00e9ma britannique depuis 2000<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, le nouveau si\u00e8cle a \u00e9t\u00e9 une p\u00e9riode relativement faste pour l\u2019industrie cin\u00e9matographique britannique. Bon nombre de films ont trouv\u00e9 une large audience internationale <em><strong>Le Journal de Bridget Jones<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp; (2001) de <strong>Sharon Maguire<\/strong>, le premier film de <strong>Richard Curtis<\/strong> en tant que r\u00e9alisateur, <em><strong>Love Actually<\/strong><\/em> (2003), . Dans le m\u00eame temps, des films salu\u00e9s par la critique, <em><strong>Orgueil et pr\u00e9jug\u00e9s<\/strong><\/em> (2005) de <strong>Joe Wright<\/strong>, apport\u00e8rent \u00e9galement un certain prestige \u00e0 l\u2019industrie cin\u00e9matographique du pays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">La nouvelle d\u00e9cennie vit l&rsquo;apparition d\u2019une nouvelle s\u00e9rie de films importante, financ\u00e9e gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des fonds am\u00e9ricains, mais britannique sur le plan de la r\u00e9alisation, celle des <em><strong>Harry Potter<\/strong><\/em>. <strong>Nick Park<\/strong>, d\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aardman_Animations\"><em>Aardman Animations<\/em><\/a>, cr\u00e9ateur de <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wallace_et_Gromit\"><strong>Wallace et Gromit<\/strong><\/a> et de la s\u00e9rie <em><strong>Creature Comforts<\/strong><\/em>, produisit son premier long-m\u00e9trage en 2000, <em><strong>Chicken Run<\/strong><\/em>, cor\u00e9alis\u00e9 avec <strong>Peter Lord<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Parmi les r\u00e9alisateurs britanniques qui \u00e9merg\u00e8rent durant cette p\u00e9riode, on peut citer, <strong>Michael Winterbottom<\/strong>, auteur de <em><strong>24 Hour Party People<\/strong><\/em> (2002) et <em><strong>Tournage dans un jardin anglais<\/strong><\/em>), et <strong>Stephen Daldry<\/strong>, dont le premier film, <em><strong>Billy Elliot<\/strong><\/em> (2000), fut celui qui rencontra le plus de succ\u00e8s de tous les films britanniques produits la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Dans le m\u00eame temps sortaient aussi des films de r\u00e9alisateurs plus \u00e9tablis. En 2004, <strong>Mike Leigh<\/strong> dirigea <em><strong>Vera Drake<\/strong><\/em>,. <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stephen_Frears\"><strong>Stephen Frears<\/strong><\/a> r\u00e9alisa une trilogie sur la vie en Grande-Bretagne, compos\u00e9e de <strong>Dirty Pretty Things<\/strong> (2002), , <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/07\/18\/dimanche-17h-madame-henderson-presente\/\">Madame Henderson pr\u00e9sente<\/a><\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/07\/18\/dimanche-17h-madame-henderson-presente\/\">&nbsp; <\/a>et <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cineclubbedarieux.fr\/index.php\/2019\/07\/22\/ouverture-vendredi-15-nov-21h-the-queen-seance-gratuite\/\">The Queen<\/a><\/strong> (2006),. En 2006, <strong>Ken Loach <\/strong>fut laur\u00e9at de la <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Palme_d%27or\">Palme d\u2019or<\/a> au <a
